I am a nurse. I work in a unit of general systems intensive care. Today I had a seriously ill patients and self my lunch 2 hours late. I decided that my friends house (street) turn have 15 minutes nap. It was three hours, I returned - the patient was good;! The nurse was pale and the nurse called my boss. I know what I did was irresponsible and I have no idea what to expect this kind of punishment or what to say to my boss. Any input would be appreciated. PS I love my job and I said (to a nurse in intensive care for 10 years has been) I'm good at what I do. A similar incident occurred before 6 months. I fell asleep in my car (at night) and was awakened by my phone - it was the charge nurse asked me if I come back. I slept for about 2 hours. Hospital says you get 45 minutes. This has not been documented (thankfully) but it happened. I also have to work late (2 to 5 minutes late) to 2 times over the last 6 months. The manager knows, but so far has not spoken to me about these incidents, thanks again for the replies. Do you think I should wait to be called at the office? Y "is a good idea to go tomorrow on my day off? I have no excuses and no clear idea on how to prevent it from happening again (if not, I stay in the hospital during breaks). All I can say is you lost. certainly not a reason to be refused if. Maybe you should talk to your manager, yourself and just try to do a good job to pick the side for some time. Become indispensable. The best is probably tell the truth and see what their reaction manager. There will certainly be happy for a 'time. there is no excuse for the success of countless simultaneously have up your fault. if the operator is calling even before you start talk, apologize immediately. Tell him how sorry you are and how much of your work and always has an extra effort to be good is no excuse for what happened. You should have set an alarm to get up in time. You were irresponsible, and put the rest of the ICU at risk. Imagine if someone came in was really bad and needed help from other nurses to fill but could not do their job because they work. You can be on a sort of trial or you may lose your job. You must be honest with your boss, even if it means your work. But if you get a second chance, something happens like this ever again. Their excuse is absolutely know this. I think the best you can hope is that it not lose your license. What you described, leaving the hospital grounds, so you can sleep while on the job (or Break) can be evaluated patient left. You do not get paid to nap at work.
