AFP test result.someone please HELP!?

To truly appreciate an opinion. I have 18 weeks of pregnancy. Last week I had my blood screening test is alphfetoprotein (AFP). (What is the test of protein levels and other things). My nurse called me yesterday and told me that my AFP level was 2.79. She said it was very high, indicating that there may be a problem with neural tube baby. They want me to do a new blood test my work before anything else. I think I'll make a damn ultrasound. (The last time I did was when I was 10 weeks). No stories spina bifida (or whatever they call it) in my family is there beside my husband. The only medical history has shown that fibroids. I've been awake all night, crying all the tears that I can take my system. The nurse is not useful, and I could not reach my doctor, because she is always busy. I was worried! I just need to know what to do. I think an ultrasound would rule out all possibilities, but they have refused to give me one before I try again I really do not want to test, since it will take a week or so before the test come back.I know if anyone has had AFP levels on this and everything was fine? What is the breaking point is considered normal? Is there a possibility that I may have a twin (the last time I had an ultrasound 10 weeks and the baby is not formed at the time), and yes twins run on my side and husband on the side. What other options are available .Thanks Kelly I'm stressed, I feel much better now:) Good luck with the UR results as well. God bless you.
